Hello,

I am using DRV8811 in my stepper motor driving application. I have successfully driven motor also. but problem with my driver circuit is Vcc and ground pin of driver are getting shorted after some time of proper working. what may cause this? I am not getting the reason behind this. I have already replaced my driver 4-5 times.

Hi Adesh,

Please look for voltage spikes at the device VM pin with respect to the device GND pin. If you are seeing large spikes, you may need to increase your bulk capacitance and local bypass capacitance.
What is the VM voltage used?
Can you provide additional information, such as the schematic and layout?

Yes. in output waveform there are spikes. can you please explain reason behind these spikes? and My schematic is almost same as given in datasheet of DRV 8811. And today I faced new problem with that circuit I am getting DIR pin of IC already shorted to ground internally, IC is working in one direction motion of motor only. what may reason behind this problem?

Hi Adesh,

The spikes could be a caused by many things.

What is your VM voltage, and VCC voltage? Are they stable at the pins of the device? This information will help further debug.
Any scope captures of winding currents and output voltages will also help.

Hello Rick,

I tried Vm over range of 8 to 24 V. and Vcc is 5V.

Hi Adesh,

Can you provide your layout?
For reference, all documentation for the the DRV8811EVM is available online. This includes the schematic and the layout used.
Perhaps you can see something that is different between your layout and the EVM layout.
