DRV8305 Damage

Hi everyone..

I'm using TMS320F28035 with DRV8305 motor driver. My custom board two layers. Top layer control unit. Bottom layer power unit and there are 6 mosfets (SUM110N06-3M9H-E3). I'm using BLDC_Sensorless project in constrolsuite(Trapezoidal control). When i don't connect motor all signal ok, but when i connect motor DRV is falling (PVDD_UVLO2). It doesn't appear short circuit. When i close all fault DRV on fire. How to fix this situation.

    As Mehmet suggest, please provide more details.

    Have you tried more than one board? Have you tried powering up the system with low voltage and current limits to isolate the problem?

    I tried 3 different boards. All boards falling fault PVDD_UVLO2. Input volage 12 V.

    Yellow EPWM1A, input DRV8305 INH_A,

    Aqua EPWM1B, input DRV8305 INL_A,

    Green output DRV8305 (GH_A)

    Purple phase B

    And now, no motor connection. All signals seems right.  And then i connect motor, all signals close(without EPWM1A, EPWM1B...).

    I'm changing DfuncTesting parameter in level2(in BLDC_Sensorless project). and than change EPWM1A and 1B, but no phase and DRV8305(GH_A, GL_A, GH_B...) outputs signals this situation.

    Sometimes DRV is falling FETHx_VGS fault. 

  • Hi Salih,

    If failing PVDD_UVLO2, this is usually an indication of lack of bulk capacitance in the system. Please monitor the PVDD voltage at the DRV8305 for droops when starting the motor.

    If drooping below 4.4V, please consider adding more bulk capacitance or increasing the power supply.
    What is the bulk capacitance and local PVDD bypass capacitance values? Please note section 9.1 for a generic guideline, and Figure 11 for a typical application showing almost 1mF of bulk plus several small bypass caps.
  • PVDD signal as shown capture. When start motor hapening short circuit and PVDD_UVLO2 fault.

    Bulk capacitance about 2000uF and power supply 8A. But when i use TIDA-00643, this board draw current 2-3A .

    If motor spin anywise, DRV8305 is burning. 

  • Hi Salih,

    It appears there is something different on your custom board versus the TIDA-00643.

    Please try the two boards without the motor, looking for differences. If you see none, then please focus on the current sense amplifiers and other circuit that could affect proper motor operation.
  • I closed all fault and than motor spinning. No damage, no high temperature on DRV8305.

    But 12A current draw mosfets from the power supply and PVDD about 8V

    Phase signals as shown captures.

    Bad signal on the Phases. How do I get better signal.
