BoostXL-DRV8301 fault at starting

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8301, MOTORWARE

the driver makes the motor to spin on step , then the power supply shut down.
and i dont know what the problem??

  • Hi Mohamed,

    Can you provide more information?
    What is the PVDD voltage?
What is the power supply rating?
What motor are you using and what are the specifications?

If the power supply is shutting down, it may be the motor consumes more current than the power supply can provide.
  • PVDD volatge 12v
power supply is a desktop power supply with max current 23A.
    Motor Specs
    36V , 250 watrr BLDC Motor

    Thanks in Advance
  • Hi Mohamed,

Can you describe what occurs when "the power supply shut down"?

Does the nFAULT or nOCTW LED light when this occurs?
What is the value of the status register?
  • hi Rick,
    Thanks for the great offer

yeah the red led i turned on.
    The power supply just stopped.

I tried to use codes by TI to read the status register but it didn't work on debugger and i dont know why.
The debugger message was that this code cant be debugged.

if you can send me a working project for TIf28027 and Boosterpack DRV8301 that will be great so i can figure out where is the problem.

    Thanks in Advance
  • Hello Rick,
i tried another driver Aslo DRV8301.
First i enable the driver through make GPIO_6 High.

sec , i activated AH and BL using gpio by making them high.

the BLDC spin for one step , and the driver fault led turned on and then the power supply turned off.

    Thanks in Advance
  • Hi Mohamed,

Have you downloaded MotorWare and read the documentation available here: LINK ?

I do not understand power supply turned off. Does it have a resettable fuse? Do you have to remove and re-apply power to the power supply to turn it back on?

  • hey Rick,
yes i am using these libs but the problem that when i upload a code , it doesnt run due to SW Break point.

Its a desktop computer power supply , when i activate one coil to make the motor spin , the power supply stop working (i have to remove the power cable and plug it again to make the power supply works again).

    Thanks in Advance
  • Dear Rick,

I managed to solve the problem.
The problem was from the power supply , it just shut down when i activated the coil of the motor.
The driver fault red led turned on because of the absence of the power.

I also connected the driver to the motor without connecting the power and when i activated the ENABLE pin in the driver, the driver turned on the fault led.

    Thanks for the support.
    Sorry for wasting your time.
  • Hi Mohamed,

Glad to hear you solved your problem.
