DRV8825 Problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8825, DRV8825EVM

HI,

I am using DRV8825 for driving stepper motor, whose specifications are, 1.5A, 1.43ohms, Fs = 110RPM.

When i am driving the motor, motor gets stuck at start only and if i rotate shaft by hand it starts rotating.

I tried acceleration curve, with different micro stepping and frequencies, but same issue :(

What is the reason for such behavior?

Also is it necessary to give some pulses at initialization of Driver IC?

Thank you .

  • Hi Aniket,

As long as the DRV8825 is operating properly and VM remains above the UVLO voltage, the motor should turn.

I have seen bad connections from the board to the motor cause problems. Please check the motor resistance with the board powered down and the motor connected to the board.

Are you using the DRV8825EVM or your own PCB? Assuming you are using your own board, please try a second board if available.
  • Hi, Thank you for your response.

We are using custom board. Connections are proper.
Can problem of torque or current cause this problem of getting stuck or any other problem?
  • Hi Aniket,

There are a few items to try.

First remove the motor and confirm the device is operating as expected. The voltage on the outputs will change as the step is advanced.
Next please provide the VREF voltage and sense resistor value used.
Also please try fast decay if using slow or mixed decay.
If you can send a scope capture of the current waveforms that would help. If not, send two scope captures. The first is the STEP input with AOUT1, AOUT2 and AISEN. The second is the STEP input with BOUT1, BOUT2, and BISEN.
