Hello.
for my nephew who has a micro drone quad,
as well as repair she asked me to improve it.

The average life of a brush motor is really short.

He does not want another toy, he wants to improve what he has.

I started to edit the brush motors in a brushless, it is really simple:

Even fly it easily if they have 3 windings.

The minimum size is 3x2 mm for now:

The problem is how to drive 5 windings in delta mode:

Transforming the winding in a STAR configuration is also possible but so too complicated, given the size of the tiny engine.

Any suggestions about a chip / circuit for a 5 winding delta mode
about 5Vdc and 500mA ?

I search to do this because have better performance,

we have a media of power in a single coil pulse and the "ripple" is = power loss (more or less)

If we want to connect the five coil in a STAR mode , we can use this very simple circuit:

but I need to connect in a delta (penta) mode , and more or less the motor need a circuit pilot with this cycle

Hi.

In picture we see a 9 winding coil which is the smallest in size
which can be fitted in the small quads (10 mm diameter)

Especially for engines with 9 coils can assume three types of connections:

- two delta connection ( in below picture is one of two delta combination )

- and 1 connection to "Y"

Has anyone ever tried to use this type of connection?

I solved problem with a EIC4101 , but its so more complex for so little motor....

Hi Giovanni,

Trying to use three DRV10963 probably will not work as connected. The reason is that each device is trying to start the device as a 3 phase bldc.

You may find more information on converting a brushed motor to bldc at hobbyist sites.
