Series Capacitor on Output to Inductive Load on DRV 8800

I have read all of the datasheets and technical notes regarding this motor driver and I can't seem to find anything regarding this specific application.

I want to put a bipolar capacitor in series with the inductive load on the output of a DRV 8800.  Is there an equation or algorithm out there to determine what size this capacitor should be?

Thanks,

Mike

  • Hi Mike,

You are trying to stay away from the overcurrent circuit and overcurrent deglitch time.

Overcurrent is minimum 3A and overcurrent deglitch is typically 3us. For your case, it is suggested to conservatively use 2us.

As long as the inductor/capacitor setup draws less than 3A for less than 2us, your system should work. This assumes thermal is met also.

Do you need precise control of the duty cycle or a PWM frequency greater than 100kHz in your application? If so, what are your requirements?
