DRV10983 I2C Interfacing with MSP430 Launchpad

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV10983

We would like to program DRV10983 in a post soldering process through I2C interface. In this regard, we will use MSP430G2 Launchpad. As in this case, both the Launchad and DR10983 would be separately powered through USB & 24VDC, respectively, I would like to know the specific wiring connections between Launchpad and DRV10983. We plan to connect SCL, SDA and GND pins of both the devices. Do we also need to connect 3.3V output of Launchpad to 3.3V output of DRV? I hope their is no other wiring connections between them. Please advice.

  • Hi Neetu,

Our experts have been notified and should reply soon.
  • No. There is no need to connect 3.3V output of Launchpad to 3.3V output of DRV for SCL and SDA pull-up purpose if SDA/SCL pull-up voltage is from DRV10983 V3P3 LDO.

The following information for your reference.

Both SCL and SDA pins need having pull up resistors (~4.7K, please reference datasheet page 48) to ~3.3V in order to make communication.

3.3V resource can come from either DRV10983 V3P3 pin (3.3V LDO) or 3.3V output of Launchpad (in your case).

If using DRV10983 V3P3 LDO 3.3V for SDA and SCL pull up voltage, no need to voltage resource from 3.3V output of Launchpad.

    Thanks,

    Janet Yi
