I am beginning to look into motor position control.

Should I start out with a stepper?

Any recommendations?

Do you have a target application in mind?

Are you interested in all motor types (brushed, brushless, stepper)?

I don't have a target application in mind.
In regards to motor types, I would like to start out with one I can easily obtain and experiment with (to understand motor position control).

I would suggest you start with a stepper motor. It has finite repeatable movements as long as the current requirements are met.

There are many places where you can find stepper motors and evaluation modules.

An example of an evaluatoin module is the DRV8880EVM, available at store.ti.com
