A problem that DRV8818 vibration noise is relatively large

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8818, DRV8818EVM, DRV8880, DRV8880EVM

Hello,

sorry to trouble you to check my design.

Tthe design Drv8818 stepper motor driver designed by customer self is more larger than DRV8818EVM in vibration noise . so we would ask what the case will lead to this phenomenon?
In addition, how to set up the Decay mode according to different stepper moter and configure the RCA/RCB pin resistance and capacitance parameters?
The moter model number is 57BYGH7401 and Attachment schematic for reference, thanks .

  • Hi Leo,

The 220nF capacitors (C19 and C28) are too large. This creates a blanking time of 308us and an off time of 2.2ms. The EVM, with a 47kOhm and 1nF has a blanking time of 1.4us and an off time of 47us.

You can try lowering the 220nF to approximately 1nF.

There could be other issues behind this. What are the settings for VREF and DECAY?

Depending on your current requirements, the DRV8880 with AutoTune allows the motor to be tuned quickly. The DRV8880EVM is available for evaluation of the device.
  • Hi Rick,
Thanks for your quickly response, We will change the C19/C28 to test , and DRV8880 is good with autotune.
