WE are using DRV8701 for my DC brush motor using with K58E06N many time IC will burn at VM and VCP pad please help us find the cause of burn

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8701

please suggest or guide us for my mistake

  • Hi Taweewong,

In many cases, a voltage spike on VM can cause this. One possible cause of voltage spikes is lack of bulk capacitance on the VM supply.

    Can you provide additional information?
    What is your VM voltage?
Can you provide a schematic and layout?
    What is your bulk capacitance?
How are you driving the motor (drive/coast or drive/brake)?
Is there any additional information such as scope captures that can help determine the cause.
  • -VM voltage is 24-26 vdc from battery

the burn is happen after Nsleep is on  and some after drive a few minuts

  • Hi Taweewong,

Which device is damaged (U1 or U2)? U2 has additional local capacitance.
Can you provide scope captures of:
the VM pin with respect to the DRV8701 gnd
the VCP pin with respect to the DRV8701 gnd
the SH1 and SH2 pins with respect to the DRV8701 gnd
