DRV8832: DRV8832

Guru 13485 points
Part Number: DRV8832

In page 10, it is written that the maximum allowed resistor for current limiting is 1 Ohm. (Which is a bit different than what I find in other DRV88x family datasheets.)

We need to detect 100 mA  as Trip current, It means I need to place a 2 Ohm resistor. (Not allowed by the datasheet).

How can we do so ?

Maybe it is a datasheet mistake ?

(I Think there is something wrong with this line as it also says that I can current limits higher than the device maximum rating.)

Maybe a different driver ?

  • Hi Eli,

No concern from a device standpoint on using a 2 Ohm resistor to trip at 100 mA.

The 1 Ohm specification is assuming that the maximum current (1 A) is driven into the system.  With a 1 Ohm Resistor at 1 A the DRV8832 would enter into an OCP condition and flag a fault, so the trip functionality would not be useful.

In this application a 2 Ohm resistor for a 100 mA trip point would not be a problem.
