DRV8711EVM: External control interface

Hello,

I have the DRV8711EVM board+motor. I heard that we could bypass the built in MSP processor and provide external signals for controlling the stepper motor through Jumper J6.

My question is how do we interface an arduino or RPi-3 through J6 so that i could control the motor. I also want to know what the function of each pin is so that its easier to interface externally?

Hi Shanthilal,

Yes you can remove the 13 jumpers from the board (J6 header) and connect you desired microcontroller to the right column of J6 headers.

hello again, I tried connecting it with my arduino. Nothing happened. Could you tell me if anything is missing from the pictures. Potentiometer is for input to arduino, the output from arduino is given to pins step, DIR, BIN1, BIN2 of the TI board.

Also, should the board be connected to the computer even in this case?

Hello Shanthilal,

From your pictures it looks like you don't have SLEEPn pin connected. This pin needs to be set high to enable the device. Also, the SPI pins are not connected. You may find this app note useful in order to drive the DRV8711. http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/drv8711.pdf

Hello, I have connected the sleep pin(pin no 2) to receive a high signal from arduino. Also connected the SPI cable.Yet there is no response. What may be the problem?
Also, could you kindly list out the pins required (which are to be connected to arduino) on the EVM. And to clarify, SPI pin is the one connected to the computer's USB port right?

Hello Shanthilal,

Looks like you have a Fault condition. For comparison, I would connect all jumpers for J6 run the board with the GUI provide and record the signal from the provided test points. Then you can see how to drive the DRV8711 device and compare it to what your microcontroller is doing.
