DRV8303EVM: Issue with Speed Ref. POT interfacing

Part Number: DRV8303EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8303

Hi TI Engineer,

We are evaluating the DRV8303 EVM for BLDC drive and i found that the connection of the Speed Control POT (R62 as per BOM in slvc598 folder) are such that it leads to a 3v3 GND short condition. The PCB connections are as per schematic. Please clarify about connections.

I wish to interface this (or another) POT in InstaSPIN BLDC software package. Request your guidelines for interface.

Which variable gives converted digital output of ADC BO pin? Do you recommend the use of external POT with other ADC interface pin? Suggest required changes in software.

Thanks & Regards,
MR. Vatsal Shah

  • Hi Vatsal,

The connection of the speed control pot is incorrect and can lead to a short. Pins 2 and 3 are reversed in the schematic.

The best approach at this time is to either remove the pot, or cut the trace from pin 2 to 3V3 on the back of the board. Both of these will cause the pot to be unusable, but will prevent a possible short from 3V3 to GND. See image below for recommended cut location on the back of the board.

  • Hi Rick,

Thanks for the suggestion. I will make a cut as suggested to save my board.

Need help with interfacing of other POT (Pin 1 on J6 connector - ADC B6 pin of 28035 DSP) outside PCB.

What are the software changes required in InstaSPIN project? (Pin configuration, ADC clock settings, Activation, Interrupt enable and ISR etc.)

Do we have any specific project to DRV8303 board?

    Reply awaited.
