DRV595: device overheating

Part Number: DRV595

Can you advise the most common reasons for this, to check. The application is TEC controller. the load is around 1A, but it gets hot and shuts down. It is heat sunk and also the bootstraps caps are the correct value. Is there anything else to check?

Hi Alan,
There are two kinds of FAULT which make the device get into shutdown mode: OC FAULT and OT FAULT.
For OC FAULT, if the instantaneous output current exceed 7.5A, the device gets into shutdown mode.
For OT FAULT, if the internal die temperature exceeds 150+/-15 degC, the device gets into shutdown mode.
So the first you need to to confirm it's a OT FAULT. Under normal circumstances, this device can run with 4A output current without any problem(OT FAULT). How much is the ambient temperature? If Ta is very high, the output power can't reach a high target. And the thermal design on the board is good enough? For the board design, please refer to our EVM design www.ti.com/.../slau479.pdf
BTW, the thermal pad is at the bottom of the device and the heat can be dissipated through PCB. Heatsink actually doesn't help much in this.

Hi, the part is soldered down properly to its heatpad, so there is something else not working properly. Any suggestions or waveforms to take a look at?
