Hi,

I am intending to use the DRV10983 to drive a sensorless brushless DC motor. I have connected it as shown in section 12 of the DRV10983 datasheet.

When powered up the motor does not rotate. Looking at the datasheet it looks like I have to set the motor parameters as shown in section 9.4 using an I2C interface.

I have no idea how to programme the I2C. Can you recommend a USB to I2C device and software that will allow me to programme it?

I can get a FTDI USB to I2C device on a next day delivery. Can this be used?

What software can I use to programme it from Windows 10 or Windows 7?

Hi Chad,

Please download GUI from web, it is available under the software section www.ti.com/.../drv10983evm.

EVM kit should have USB2ANY which can be used as interface with PC and GUI.

Hi,

I'm not using the EVM. I just have a DRD10983 IC soldered to a PCB.

What device can I use to connect the I2C connections to a Windows PC via USB, and what software do I need to write to an address on the DRV10983?

This first one is for R&D, but eventually I want to I to be able to programme these on a production line.

Hi Chad,

You can still use USB2ANY and GUI, you would access to SDA, SCL and GND pin on your board to interface with USB2ANY. Just use schematics of EVMs for pins used for SDA and SCL on USB2ANY interface.

Thank you, that solved the problem. The EVM certainly seems to be the easiest way to do it.
