DRV595 EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV595EVM, DRV595

Dear Forum-Moderators

I received my DRV595EVM a few day ago. My plan is to drive a TEC module with a Voltage up to 26 V DC.First i measured the gain resistors R1 (100k Ohm) and R2( 20k Ohm) which are on the EVAL Board by default. Approiate to the datasheet its a gain of 26 dB. To Test I connected a potentiometer( Range: 0 to 10 Ohm) on Out + and Out-.  On PVCC i put a external power suplly with 26 V DC.  As IN+/IN- i put a variable Voltage from 0.5V to 5V. I though i can give 0.5 V as Input and i should have an Output with a gain of 26 dB so i expected 10 V. Unexpected the Voltage jumps to over 100V parallel measured to the poti (5 Ohm)  with ah Oscilloscope. I think i miss understand somithing in generall is the gain multiplied with the PVCC or with IN+?

Best regards,

Alex

  • Hi Alex,
26dB gain is 20X amplifier. The power supply for DRV595EVM is 26V, there is no boost circuit inside the power driver. So I don't think the output amplitude could reach 100V. Could you please double-check your setting? You can find more info about DRV595EVM in this document: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slau479/slau479.pdf.

  • Dear Shawn Zheng

The problem is solved i had false settings by the oszi. Thank you for the fast answer. Actually i have a gain of 20 dB, which is perfect for my application. Actually i have 26V with a max current of 3A as power supply. By the Data Sheet
www.ti.com/.../slau479.pdf. it ist writen that the max Supply current should be 3 A. On the Data Sheet of the IC DRV595 it stays that the Ouput can have 4 A. Actually when i go up to 17 V (In+ 1.7 V with a gain of x10) the Voltage of the supply goes down. I found a articel on the TI Forum with the same Problem
    e2e.ti.com/.../1953904. He said´´
My intention was to get maximum current out of the device. This I achieve from about 1.4V on IN+(IN- at GND) and PVCC 24VDC. ´´ With this settings i also reach 17.1 volt with a current of 3.3 A, but my goal is to reach a Voltage with a Range from: 0 to 26 same as the PVCC and a current up to 4 A to drive my TEC device

    Best regards
