DRV8711: DRV8711 comparison

Part Number: DRV8711

Hi to all, I'm a Hardware engineer and I've been working on DRV8711 stepper motor driving capabilities and now I want to form some sort of comparison between DRV8711 and other alternatives inside the market to compare the performance and etc. I want to design a general purpose PCB for this goal, meaning I want to put all the possible gate drivers inside one single pcb, and all connected to Mosfets, so for each comparison I will run one of those gate drivers and I will record the results to keep the integrity of the same test setup.
The Schematics will be like below, Imagine that I will be using fast schottkey diodes, I was wondering in this configuration can any issue arises to effect the whole system performance due to the diodes?
do you have a better recommendations?

  • Hi Milad,

The configuration shown will not work. The diodes allow the FETs to be turned on, but not off. Also the diodes can affect the VDS monitor of the DRV8711.

If you desire to create such a board, you may have to add jumpers (or zero Ohm resistors) to connect and disconnect devices.
  • Thanks, you are completely right, but I want some adaptive schematics, I want to make the whole system kind of Automatic, what if I remove diodes and turn on each gate driver when necessary and turn the rest off? will this hurt other gate drivers ?
