DRV8846: Autotune at Power Up

Part Number: DRV8846

The data sheet is clear about entering Autotune mode as follows:

"pull the ADEC pin to logic high and pull DEC0 and DEC1 pins to logic low. The state of the ADEC pin is only evaluated when exiting sleep mode."

My question is whether Autotune can be enabled at power up. Assuming the ADEC pin is held high at power up, will the DRV8846 go directly to Autotune mode? If so, this saves an MCU I/O pin for designs that will only operate in Autotune mode and do not need the Sleep function. If not, designers are forced to use an I/O pin just for cycling the nSleep pin.

  • Hi Paul,

Yes, AutoTune can be enabled at power up.

Powering up the device with nSLEEP set to a logic high is considered exiting sleep mode.

Another option available is connecting the nENBL and nSLEEP to a single GPIO if you are using the nENBL to disable the driver. This will minimize the current consumption when the device is disabled.
