DRV8313: Thermal issues related to tying Pin 18 to ground?

Part Number: DRV8313

Hi,

I have a customer that is tying pin 18 (RSVD) to ground. They are experience the following and are wondering if it is because of this connection:

"As I power up  the board (no shorts measured) at about 1.1V it starts to pull current – with a IR thermometer the DRV8313 starts to get warm but ive current limited the supply to 0.1A to limit any damage – is this ground connection the issue?"

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and regards,
Drew

  • Hi Drew,

Yes, this is an issue if using the RHH package. The device will recover when more current is provided to VM. The additional current will allow VM to continue rising. Once VM rises to approximately 3V, the current should drop and the device will begin to operate as expected.

Please ask the customer to remove the GND connection to the RSVD pin.
