BOOSTXL-DRV8323RH: Using PWM to control motor torque?

Hi,

I am working with the boost motor driver attached to a 3-phase brushless motor that I want to use to produce a certain amount of torque. My understanding is that this is a velocity controlled motor driver - and since force / torque is proportional to acceleration, it may not be possible to do so with this driver. The only parameter I can change is PWM, which I believe effects speed and current draw. But I am not sure how this behaves under a resistance from whatever actuator the motor is moving. PWM input is given by a Raspberry Pi.

Is there a way I can use this motor driver to produce a known torque?

Hi Christopher,

The DRV8323RH motor driver is used to control the flow of current in the motor and provide feedback to the mcu. It can be used for speed control or torque control.

The algorithm to control speed or torque is handled by the mcu.

Please search for torque control on the forum. There is a lot of information, particularly in the C2000 and InstaSPIN forums.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the pointer - maybe a more simple rephrasing of my question. Is it possible to adjust the current output of the BOOST DRV8323RX EVM?
Using the module in 1x PWM mode does not directly give this option when plugged into our PWM source. Can the motor driver firmware somehow be changed before it is switched to external control (1x) mode?
