DRV8860: Multiple DRV8860 drivers on a single serial interface?

Part Number: DRV8860

So the datasheet for DRV8860 states "DRV8860 devices can be daisy-chained together to use a single serial interface".  They say "CAN", do they also mean "MUST"?  Do they support a configuration that is familiar to SPI where datain, dataout, and clock are shared, but the latch signals are unique to each part?  We have a design that we are debugging that have the devices sharing the datain, dataout, and clock lines, but have discrete latch signals.  Is this configuration supported?  I suspect not.  I'm thinking that we will need to lift DIN/DOUT pins and chain the devices together.  I guess I'm just surprised that the datasheet would not state that multiple devices that share an interface MUST chain the DIN/DOUT.

  • Hi Troy,

The device has a serial interface. The interface is not SPI as you can see by the special commands.

If you want to use the devices separately you can with more resources. This can improve response time.
If you want to daisy chain the devices, you can do that. This will reduce the number of resources requires.
