DRV8801: DRV8801 Half bridge configuration

The DRV8801 is not intended for independent half bridge control. There are other devices that have an independent half bridge control.

What is your application, voltage and current range? There may be better options.

I am already using DRV8801 in my application and I would not like to change component.
So there is no way to configure DRV8801 to control two independent half-bridge mosfets? May I have two independent PWM inputs for the driver so to control the two half-bridges?

Hi FAX,

No, there is no way to configure the device for simultaneous independent half bridge operation. The device operates per the control logic table in the datasheet.

It may be possible to operate in independent half bridge mode if only one half bridge is used at a time, and the other half bridge output can be set to a high or low. That would require further evaluation to confirm.

We need to evaluate case by case and therefore I think DRV8816 (www.ti.com/.../DRV8816 will be more suitable for our application since we need independent control of the two half bridges and Vmax=36V.

What is the nominal voltage for VM?
What is the max peak current and RMS current expected?
The recommended device may change based on this requirements.

VM nominal will be 24V but I do not know the current yet. We need to try different loads and use cases.

For now DRV8816 seems to suit our applications.
