DRV8412: Suggest Kit to drive brushed DC motor and Stepper motor

Part Number: DRV8412
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-F28069M, , DRV8704, DRV8711

Hi Engineers,

Good evening..!

Hope everyOne doing fine..!

I am looking for DRV8412EVM to drive the brushed DC and Stepper motors. It seems it's not available from the TI for sale.

Can u suggest me any other alternate development tool or booster packs compatible to drive brushed DC and stepper motors.

Launchpad am having : F28069M.

Expecting your helpful replies at the earliest buddies.

Thanks in advance...!

Regards

Nayeem Sk

  • Hi Nayeem,

Please search for DRV8412-C2-KIT This kit is available at several distributors.

We will look for the reason why it is not available at the ti store.
  • Thanks Rick for your helpful reply,

I wish to purchase from TI Store only. Kindly check the reason why its not available from TI store.

Also can u suggest me any compatible booster packs to drive brushed DC motor and stepper motors using LaunchXL-F28069M. If possible provide me with solution examples.

    Regards

  • DRV8412-C2-KIT

is now obsolete. There are still some in the distribution channel, but we are no longer manufacturing.

this doesn't work with your Launchpad anyways, it uses the included F28035 controlCARD

We don't have any supported kits for H-bridge / Brushed /Stepper motor controls. For single axis motors a C2000 is typically overkill. Only in multi-axis systems would a C2000 really be used, so this type of motor control isn't a focus for us from a KIT perspective.

The DRV88xx series is an integrated motor driver for H-bridge from TI. There are smart versions and ones that use an MSP430 MCU for simple control.  Rick can point you to the best solutions from DRV88x.

  • Thanks for the info Chris.

    Hi Nayeem,

As Chris pointed out, we have many devices that are designed for steppers and brushed motors. Can you provide your requirements (system voltage, motor current, desired current regulation, motor types and operation)? We can them point you to a few options.

The EVM available typically have a MSP430 mcu on board, but there is the ability to use a separate mcu by wiring connections to the EVM.

If you are looking for a DRV8412 EVM at the TI store, the store.ti.com/DRV8412DDWEVM-DRV8412DDWEVM-Evaluation-Module-P1935.aspx is available.

It is not a kit and does not have all of the features of the DRV8412-C2-KIT.
  • Thanks for the info.

Am a beginner in the application development based on C2000 MCU.

I would like to interface stepper motor and brushed DC motors to the C2000 microcontroller and interested to study about the behaviour and control of motors.

  • I finalized to go with DRV8704 and DRV8711 EVM to control brushed DC and Stepper motors respectively.

Kindly let me know the standard motors and their ratings to interface to the Kits.

    Thanks in Advance

  • Hi Nayeem,

Motor selection is based on torque requirements of the system. A motor manufacturer can assist with these questions.

One item to note about steppers is that current (torque) is the key rating. Voltage is not important. Stepper motors can be operated at much higher voltages than the manufacturers rating.
