DRV8320: Using the DRV8320 for a four a BLDC four quadrant control

Part Number: DRV8320

Hello All

I currently use an Allegro A4935 for a low voltage four quadrant control by using the same PWM signal for the PWMH and the PWML pins. This works well, however I now need to put a design together for a four quadrant control that works up to 54.6V (48V lithium battery). Does anyone have any idea;s how I can get the four quadrant working on the DRV8320 or similar that has a higher Vm?

Thanks

  • Hi Graham,

The DRV8320 should work, and with a recommended operating voltage of 60 (Absolute maximum of 65V) provide some margin.

It appears 3X or 6X PWM can provide similar outputs, although additional PWM outputs are required.
  • Thanks Rick

However to achieve the four quadrant control, do you recommend running 6 PWM mode however feeding the gates with PWM's derived from logic gates (XOR and AND) or is there and easier method? It is difficult (if possible) to control the PWM's like this using the MCU amd the logic gate method is tedious and takes up a lot of space on the PCB.

Do you see an easier way of achieving the Four quadrant control?

    Thanks
    Graham
