DRV10983Q1EVM: Register writing not succesful!

Part Number: DRV10983Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY, DRV10983-Q1, DRV10983

Dear sir or madame,

When I start the GUI for the DRV10983Q1EVM the following error message is displayed.

After clicking on continue the gui opens and I get a connection to the EVM, but when I want to edit the phase resistance another error message is shown.

Do you have any suggestion what I can do?
The firmware is 2.7.0.0.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hey Alexander,

It looks like you have the correct firmware for the USB2ANY so that should not be a problem. Assuming you have the EVM powered within the voltage range specified in the datasheet, this means there is a problem communicating with the device via I2C.

Specifically, the DRV10983-Q1 device is a sleep enabled device. This means the switching regulator is disabled in the sleep mode version to conserve more energy. While in sleep mode the I2C interface is disabled and any register data not stored in EEPROM is reset for the sleep mode version. To exit sleep mode, there must be a voltage (V_speed > V_DIG_IH) on the speed pin. I've copied the conditions from the datasheet for entering and exiting sleep mode below:

Anyways, this can be accomplished by twisting the potentiometer on the bottom of the board clockwise and placing the shunt on J2 on the 1st and 2nd pin of the header so it covers the side of the header that says "analog". This will create a voltage divider with some voltage on the speed pin. This should allow you to use the GUI to communicate with the device.

    Hope this helps,

    -Cole

  • Hey Cole,

Thanks for the fast response, but your suggestions didn't work.
I don't think that the EVM is in sleep mode.
First of all on the EVM itself the box "`Stand-By" is checked.
Second I'm able to start the ec motor for a very short span of time. -> Start up doesn't work -> needs modification transmitted by I2C. (My opinion)
The third point is, that I get the first error message (again shown below) even when no device is connected at all.
So I think it may be a software problem.

Hope you have some further ideas.

Thanks for your help so far.
    Alex

  • Edit: I use Windows 10. I hope that isn't causing the error.
  • Hey Cole,
I resolved the issue, thanks for your time!

  • hi Alex,

i have the same problem. can you tell me, how to solve this problem. Thank you very much.

    Zeng
  • Hi Zeng,

In my case I used the default filepaths for the installation process of the usb2any and the drv10983 GUI. The programs were installed in the ProgramData folder. But for security reason the program was not able to modify or create the register file.

    Solution:
Just create an other filepath were you install both programs again and it should work fine.

    Hope this does help

    Regards

    Alex
