I have been trying to drive a 36V MOOG motor BN17-15AA-03LH with gear of ratio of 75. The motor has 4 poles. I setup the evaluation board to 6X PWM since 1XPWM didn't move the motor. The ramp rate delay is set to 100 cycles and the PWM is set to 10KHz.

Just driving the motor alone without gear is okay but it has a hard time to drive with gear. Reverse didn't work at all.

I believe there is something to do with Hall Effect sensors. Please help. Thanks.

Hi David,
When the motor is enabled in the GUI, and the motor doesn't spin.
Can you please check under the status report tab what the Fault Status Indicator is reporting?
Also, if you go to the register map tab and do a read. do you see any faults being reported?
This should gives us an initial clue of what is going on with your set up. Thank you.

Actually the motor "without" gear did spin with not much torque. It is when the motor was install in a gear box it could start very easily. I could sometimes help by giving the motor a turn on the shaft. When the motor stall. I got the "Stall Fault".

Is there a way I can send you motor spec?

Hi David,

Have you tried adjusting the limit on your Fault handling Control tab? what are your set values for all 6 settings?

Hello David,
Thank you for the information provided.
The BOOSTXL-DRV8323RS EVM supplies 3.3V power to the Halls. I see your halls need a different voltage level, please supply the correct voltage level needed to your halls and let me know if this solves your issue.

Hi Luis,

That has been fixed by connecting the Hall Vcc to the local 5V as shown in the attached photo.

Do you see any other problems such as Hall sensor connection to the motor?

Hi Luis,

Will it cause problem if I want to try out Hall Sensor pin connection to the motor combination (8 possible combination of the ABC wires)?

Hi David,

Thank you for the picture. Can you also please confirm for you have populated R36, R37, and R37? Those are 0 Ohm resistors needed to be connected if you want to run with the feedback from the halls. The EVMs default is to have those resistor as DNI as shown in schematic.

I am having the R36, R37 and R38 populated with 0 ohm resistors. Will that create conflict between the DRV8323 and MSP430 because both of them will be receiving Hall sensor signals.

Do I need to configure the setting to accommodate this?

Now R36, R37 and R38 are installed. It worked a bit better but still cannot drive motor with gear (not much torque). I tried all 6 combination of Hall Sensor connections. If I connect the ABC lines to CAB pattern then it works with gear motor.
It cannot make sense out of this yet. Please help.

Hi David,

I am glad your motor is working with a gear now.

To explain the pattern difference, please take a look at Sensored user's guide. the Gray coding for the sensored control is explained in section 2.

Your motor and halls labeling do not match the commutation implemented on the code. If you check your motor's sequence with the user's guide you will verify your findings. Thank you.
