DRV8872: DRV8870 vs DRV8871 vs DRV8872

Part Number: DRV8872
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8871, DRV8870, , DRV8884, DRV8803

Support Path: /Product/Help with Device Selection/Motor drive and control system solutions/

Can someone help me understand the differences between DRV8870, DRV8871, and DRV8872?  I understand the DRV8872 has a fault line, but outside of this I do not see the differences.

Note my application is driving four solenoids, each at 24V, 17mA.  I'm also considering 2x DRV8884.  I'd welcome suggestions on other parts that might be a better fit for my application.

  • Hi Jon,

The DRV8870 has a VREF and ISEN pin to set the chopping current level.

The DRV8871 has internal current sense, and uses the ILIM pin to set the current chopping level.

The DRV8872 has an internal reference voltage (200mV) and external ISEN pin to set the current chopping level. As you mentioned, there is a fault indication also.

The DRV8803 will also work in your application. Only 1 is required.
