DRV8837: DRV8837 and DRV8871 design application for detecting Motor current

Hi Sirs,

Could you please help my customer confirm the following design questions about DRV8837 and DRV8871?

1. We would like to use DRV8837 VM pin to detect Motor current on high side as below schematic, is it available?

2. We would like to use DRV8871 ISEN pin to detect Motor current on low side as below schematic, is it available?

    Hi Henry,

     

    INA180 can be used in either configuration.

     

    Please double check the DRV8871 pin out against data sheet.

     

    In general dedicated current sense solutions such as INA180 is far superior than those integrated inside the motor drivers. Still depending on your requirements, you may want to evaluate bandwidth, response time, output linear range etc. Swing and offset errors become prominent at low load current levels. You may want to evaluate if accuracy at low  load current is important to you.
