DRV10983EVM: Open loop to close loop transition fails

Part Number: DRV10983EVM

Hi,

I am trying to drive a motor I designed with the DRV10983EVM board, and I am struggling to get it to work properly.

Summary:

1. We managed to drive the motor in open loop control. However when the closed loop control is enabled, the motor always drive up to the open to closed loop threshold and then stops. The sin current waveform of constant amplitude dies to zero rapidly. In the display panel of the GUI, the Lock indicator will be on and the motor restarts and repeat the same process a few seconds later.

2. I tried to adjust the transition threshold from low (a few Hz) to high (204 Hz), not much difference.

3. At 204 Hz, my motor should give a 1.4 peak back emf. Is it large enough for the Drive to detect?

Any suggestions?

Ning

  • Ning,

Sorry to hear that you're struggling to get your motor up and running.

Is the GUI reporting a fault when it fails?

My suggestion would be to do the following:

    • Review the tuning guide:
    • Make sure the Rm and Kt are programmed correctly.
    • Usually a handoff frequency of 12.8-51 Hz work for most motors.
    • Slow down the closed loop acceleration rate.

If you can provide a scope shot of the current waveform it might help us give some more suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Brian
