Looking for silent stepper motor driver

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8711, DRV8824, DRV8886AT, DRV8880

Hello!

Does TI offer a stepper motor driver that offers quiet or silent driving similar to the TMC2130? I've seen another thread where a similar question was posted but no TI part was explicitly stated to be quiet or silent.

  • Hi Lucas,

We currently don't have devices that guarantee silent operation of a stepper motor. However, you can choose particular settings to improve acoustic performance of a stepper.

Using very fine microsteps can give you better noise performance. The DRV8711 can do 1/256 step. The DRV8824/25/34/46 can do 1/32 step.

The DRV8886AT and DRV8880 have our AutoTune feature, which continually adjusts the current control method to achieve good current-regulation performance. This is important because any ripples in the current waveform become acoustic noise.
  • Thanks James! I'll look into these devices.
