DRV8872-Q1: serial resistor to protect inputs

Dear team,

is there e serial resistor needed to protect the IN_1 and IN_2 of DVR8872-Q1? Is there an ESD Structure in front of the pull down that needs to be protected or can we jus rely on the internal pull down resistors itself? Ideally we would not spend the external components. In case a resistor is needed what value do you recommend?

Hi Lutz,

What type of ESD protection is needed? The device has HBM, CDM, and MM protection.

Hi Rick,

it is a board internal connection between an MCU and the DRV input only. There were no ESD requirement at that point. We just want to be sure that we are not picking up some spike that could damage the input. Also in case of a static HIGH failure of the 5V MCU the internal Pull down should be able to handle the power dissipation. 125°C is required

Hi Lutz,

The device does not need a series resistor. In some cases, adding a series resistor can help with reflections on the signal.

The internal pulldown is designed to handle the power dissipation.
