DRV8412: Microsteps Possible

Part Number: DRV8412

How many microsteps can the DRV8412 handle when driving a stepper motor. I see figure 13 shows 128 steps, but is this the maximum? I cannot find this any place in the data sheet.

Thanks for your help with this!

  • Hi Richard,

The DRV8412 does not have a limit to the number of microsteps. There will be a system limit based on motor specifications and external circuitry used.

The number of microsteps depends primarily on the specs (resolution and accuracy) of the ADC measuring the shunt resistor voltage.

The DRV8412 is being controlled by a mcu, and attempting to maintain the desired current level. The current through the shunt resistor is measured by the ADC.
