DRV8301: Brushless Motor Schematic

Part Number: DRV8301

Hello,

I'm working on creating a PCB to power a BLDC motor using the DRV8301 driver chip. I have found an example schematic online but have a couple questions about it.

1.) There is a note provided about an ESC (which I assume is an electronic speed controller). I am unsure of how this would work in the circuit.

2.) There are 2 power sources, VDD and VCC included on the schematics. I could not find a voltage divider to drop down from the VDD. Would this mean I need 2 independent power supplies?

I have a basic knowledge of BLDCs so any insight on the schematic would be helpful.

  • Hi Zach,

    1) Yes, this is an electronic speed controller. Was there any supporting documentation? Have you read it? Do you have a specific question about it?

    2) VCC is created from the DRV8301. The DRV8301 contains a internal buck used to create VCC.
  • Rick,

I don't have any other documentation besides schematic I provided along with files to create a PCB of the design. What is the speed controller adding to the schematic? Wouldn't the DRV8301 be able to drive the motor without the need for a speed controller if there is a throttle included in the design?

    Thanks,
    Zach
