DRV8846EVM: How to change the minimum starting and stopping speed form 200 pps to 0.

Part Number: DRV8846EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8846

HI All,

I just found the GUI of DRV8846 EVM can only have lowest starting or stopping speed PPS as 220 pps. That means the motor will continuously rotate as long as the controller is enabled. Is there anyway to make this speed to be 0?  Thank you!

Joe

  • Hi Joe,

I believe the GUI decelerates the motor to 220 pps, then the MCU on the board stops sending step pulses. When the driver stops receiving step pulses, the rotor will stop wherever it is.

Page 7 in the EVM user guide describes how to do this kind of motion control. Here's the section I read:

Once the target speed (PPS) is reached, the acceleration profile ends and the motor stays running until

the stop stepper command is issued (Start/Stop Steps button is selected again). When the stepper is

commanded to stop, the controller does exactly as it did while accelerating, but in reverse to decelerate

until the stop speed PPS is reached, in which case the motor fully stops.

  • Hi James,

Thank you very much for the help. I read the manual several times but was not clear with part before.Thank you for the explanation and I think I 'm clear now. I will try this with my motor when we get all the connection done between the controller and motor.
    Have a great day!

    Joe
