DRV8701: What is the difference between the drivers DRV8701E and DRV8701P?

Hello,

I am trying a DRV8701EVM, for developing an application with the motor driver DRV8701x.

I thought that the DRV8701E could only work with high or low level and not PWM but each driver could work with a PWM signal, according that I have read.

Is for these reason that I don't understand the real difference between the drivers DRV8701E and DRV8701P.

Could anyone help me?

Hi Regner,

The difference between the DRV8701E and DRV8701P is highlighted in Table 2 and Table 3 of the datasheet.

The DRV8701P has coast mode.

Both the DRV8701E and DRV8701P can accept PWM inputs. For the DRV8701E, the EN pin is typically PWM'ed. For the DRV8701P, one of the two inputs is typically PWM'ed.

I understand that, but we don't see the coast mode.

Hi Berenguer,

Would you clarify "we don't see the coast mode."? In the DRV8701P, setting the inputs to
nSLEEP = 1, IN1 = 0, IN2 = 0 results in both bridges set to High-Z (coast mode).

If you do not see this, please provide scope captures of what you see.

Hi Duncan,

Sorry, I have not expressed correctly. I would say that I didn't see the that the unique difference apart of the how to activate the inputs, are that the driver DRV8701P have coast mode that the DRV8701E have not.
