DRV8308EVM: Will not initialize

Part Number: DRV8308EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INSTASPINUNIVERSALGUI

Hi,

I can't get the DRV8308EVM_GUI to connect to the PCB and remove the little red X's and stop showing initializing. The steps I have done are;

1) Downloaded instaspinuniversalgui_v105, and installed as administrator.

2) Downloaded slvc552e.zip and extracted DRV8308EVM_GUIv1.2 to the folder D:\Ti\guicomposer\webapps\DRV8308EVM_GUIv1.2

3) Installed the USB driver as administrator (wouldn't install unless I was admin)

4) Checked jumpers on the PCB are as per slvua41e.pdf pg8, and wired up the motor.

5) Connected 24V 2A PSU to VM.

6) Connected USB to computer and confirm that the USB comm port installs a com5 in device manager-ports

7) Ran the launcher program as admin (admin or not no difference)

So the GUI loads, it sees the com5.

There is nothing in the drop down box at the top for Device.

The initializing bar shows at the bottom, and all the controls have little red X's.

Restarting application makes no difference. Computer has been restarted multiple times. Application has been reinstalled multiple times, with computer restarts in between each step....no difference.

So did I miss something? Does the baud rate make a difference? It defaults to 9600, and changing it makes no difference, and nothing mentioned in the doc....so what is going on.

Cheers

Colin

  • OK I solved it. Found another post that could be found when searching for Launch.exe not initializing. The problem is, that at work Adobe is locked down to not allow clicking on links, so I used the search function in the ti.com website.....which took me to the file instaspinuniversalgui_v105....no links the other GUI. When at home, I could follow the link in the PDF, and that gave me the correct download location.
So maybe TI can put the actual links in text into the PDF so it can be copied and pasted, or at least make it so the code will not run and produce a definite error when run with the wrong base software.
    Cheers
  • Hi Colin,

Thank you for following up with your findings, and your suggestion for the fix.
