DRV10975: Motor Heating Issues

Part Number: DRV10975

Hello,

I have a DRV10975 connected up as per the recommended values in the data sheet. It is driving a Maxon EC20 flat motor.

The motor starts and maintains speed well, although seems slightly jittery (possibly commutation?)

I have set the values based on the tuning guide slou395d, as best I can.

The motor should draw around 50mA unloaded at max, wheras it draws almost 1A, and gets hot.

Any idea which parameters may be causing this and where to start tweaking things?

Many Thanks,

Sam

  • Sam,

Is there any chance you could provide pictures of the following?

    1. Phase U current while the motor is running.
    2. Picture of the GUI Basic page.
    3. Picture of the GUI Display page while the motor is running.

My first guess would be the control advance might not be set right.

    Thanks,
    Brian
  • Brian,

    Sorry, cant easily provide those!

The chip is currently prototyped on veroboard, and connected to a Pic for the I2C. I can tell you what the registers are set to if that would help?

I do not have a current clamp, so to obtain the LR time constant I just tried some different values, but this didn't make a huge difference to the heating.

Is there any easy way to measure this without a scope ammeter?

    Thanks,

    Sam
