DRV8312: Is opto isolator needed?

Part Number: DRV8312

I am interfacing TMS320F28335ZHHA to DRV8312. As the AGND and GND are separated only via a resistor, do I need to connect any opto isolator to the pwm input to the drive or I can directly interface the PWM channel of the controller to the drv8312?

Hi Ankita,

Typically, opto isolation is not required because the absolute maximum voltage between GND and AGND is +/-0.3V. If using PWM signals with 0 to 3.3V outputs, this variation should not be a problem.

Ultimately, it is up to you to decide if opto isolation is required.

So I would proceed with the concept that there is no isolation needed for different ground pins in the drive. I checked by connecting 2 ground terminals of the drive drv8312 and did not get any shorting sound..
