Hello ,

Currently i am working with DRV8872 motor driver to drive the BDC from Maxon. Before this i have used L6203 from ST which was quite old and bulkier. The code written to L6203 was working fine now the same code is giving problem with DRV8872. The main difference between these 2 drivers is fast current decay and i have tried to slow it but istill there is saw tooth waveform.

My application is to find the stall current , where i am using hall effect sensing mechanism to alert the micro controller. Because of this pulsing current for input PWM MCU is not able to detect the stall current.

Please let me suggest some solution

Hi Chetan,

Can you provide the input sequence you are using for both the L6203 and DRV8872? From the input side, the two devices require some slight modifications to achieve the same outputs.

Which configuration (8a, 8b, or 8c) is being used for the L6203?

I have used 8a sequence for L6203 with PWM 20Khz

Hi Chetan,

Thank you for the information. The sequence 8a appears to be similar in both devices when operational.

The difference is the L6203 uses the ENABLE pin to enable/disable the outputs, while the DRV8872 uses IN1/IN2. To disable the DRV8872 outputs, both IN1 and IN2 should be set to 0.

Does this answer your question, or did you have a different question? If it is different, can you provide input/output scope captures of both devices to help clarify?

Thanks you , we are using slow decay mode where the DRV is working almost same as L6203 .
