DRV8432: Accomplishing OC

Part Number: DRV8432

Hello, I received the following question from my customer:

Could you find out if I can go beyond factory specification on over current protection for DRV8432?

Per data sheet OC will trigger at 12Amps (+/- 20%) with 22K programming resistor. In my application

I have DRV8432 configured in parallel bridge mode. To improve motor stopping distance I need to go beyond 12 Amps OC limit.

If I can get additional 20% (let’s say 15 Amps OC) it will help a lot. Would changing programming resistor from 22K to higher

Value accomplish it?

Thank you.

  • Hi Dave,

It is not recommended to go beyond datasheet recommendations.

In parallel bridge mode, the OC_ADJ resistor set the overcurrent per bridge. This means with a 22k OC_ADJ resistor, the device overcurrent can occur at 23.6A +/-20%.
