DRV8844: optional current-sense resistor

Part Number: DRV8844

There are two optional current-sense resistor, SRC12 & SRC34.

How to select suitable value for them? it is for a single power application.

Thanks,

  • Hi Wentong,

The sense resistors are needed if you plan to monitor the current externally? If you do not need to monitor the current, the SRC12 and SRC34 can be connected to VNEG.

If you plan to monitor the current, the sense resistor selected should keep the voltage at the SRC12 and SRC34 pins within the absolute maximum and minimums.
Next, the value of the sense resistor depends on the current and gain bandwidth product of the amplifier used.
Using a lower value resistor reduces power losses, but requires higher gain to determine the current and longer settling times.
Using a higher resistor increases power losses, but reduces the gain and reduces the settling times.
