BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM: starter questions for motor control development with F2807 launch pad

Hi,

I want to develop motor controls for a pmsm motor for EV traction application. Initially i want to develop controls and test on a low power motor. I'm just getting started on this project and have the following questions

1) Is the  F2807 launch pad kit and the BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM best to get started with developing controls for this application? Is there any better alternative?

2) What is the maximum power rating for the 3phase pmsm motor that can be used with the BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM?

3) Once finished with the development and testing the controls using can the design be scaled up for high power application (upto 100kw)? Are there any practical considerations apart from using higher rating drivers and power mosfets?

4) Is there any recommended IGBT modules from ti for traction applications at 100kW.

  • 1. Yes, you can. You may find some example projects based on BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM in controlSUITE or motorWare, both two s/w can be downloaded from TI website.
    2. It depends on the tolerant current and heat dissipation of BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM, the detailed data can be found in the guide of BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM.
    3. The core algorithm for motor should not have any change. You may have to change the scale value for current/voltage sampling in project, and changed the control parameters based on motor and h/w board.
    4. TI didn't have such IGBT modules for traction, you may search it for other business websites.

    I couldn't find pmsm motor for the specified ratings for the BOOSTXL DRV8301 pack. Can i use a BLDC instead and test pmsm controls on it?
