DRV2605L: Haptics Effect Recommendation

Part Number: DRV2605L
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV2625

Hi,

My customer purchased a DRV2605L to evaluate our haptics solution.  Below is their feedback:

The feel of the feedback that is on the Iphone 10 and Apple Watch ( sharp , strong , short~100-200ms) is  what we like to try and replicate.

The eval. board does not appear to have a example close enough to this. The eval. board LRA device is what we would like to use to mimic this effect.

Any recommendations/support you could give us to accomplish this?

Is there a particular built-in effect that may mimic their requirement?  Or is there another device or EVM you'd recommend?

Thanks,

Chuchen

  • Hi Chuchen,

Creating this type of effect requires a high quality haptic system. A sharp haptic effect would be much shorter than 100ms. I believe the waveform should be around 20ms. You can achieve higher acceleration clicks using the DRV2625 and a high quality LRA.
You can get close using the DRV2605L in conjunction with a high quality LRA. You will need to adjust the registers according to the LRA that is being used. This requires running the calibration routine, and setting the appropriate waveform. I would suggest waveform 0x04 and change the ODT setting to 0xFF or 0xFE.
