WEBENCH® Tools/DRV8302: Output Current Tripping

Part Number: DRV8302
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54160

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

I am using DRV8302 buck regulator for 5V output and 1A current. I have simulated the mentioned design in WEBENCH for 1A.

Used the same component value used is simulation, but the result were not expected. The output current should trip at 1A or more, but it goes beyond 1A.

I designed the same for 0.5A with different components on COMP pin, (as per WEBENCH) but still the output current did not trip at 0.5A and can be loaded upto 1.5A. How this can be ?

Please help me in this, so i can have over current protection in my design.

  • Hi Vijay,

The current limit in the datasheet is fixed to trip between 1.8 A to 2.7 A. I believe this limit is set internally on this device, so you can't choose to reduce it to 1 A. The COMP pin is meant for frequency compensation purposes. The TPS54160 datasheet explains in more detail how the device operates.
