DRV8323: Leaving one of the current sense amp floating

Part Number: DRV8323

Hello

I am developing a speed controller using a DRV8323RS and since i have to make it small i was thinking about skipping one of the three current sense amplifiers.

So I have 2 questions.

Are there any drawbacks with not using all three (except from having to calculate the last phase current)?

Is it ok to leave SPB and SNB floating?

Thanks

  • Hi Marcus,

The only drawback I can think for only having two resistors is that the phase currents could be unbalanced. But this will depend on your application. If the voltage drop across the sense resistors is small in comparison to your VM, then the imbalance is negligible and you are probably fine.

The datasheet recommends grounding SPx and SNx when they are not used.
