DRV8870: upgrading to higher power device

Hi,

I originally did a design to control a 1A brushed dc motor with PWM using the DRV8870 chip. I was happy with this design, but at the last minute the specification has changed to a 4A brushed dc motor. Now the DRV8870 is not rated to run a 4A motor, so I need to upgrade. Would you say the DRV8842 is the best upgrade option to run the 4A motor?

Hi Rocketman46,

Does the motor need the full 4A to operate? If not, you can limit the current using VREF during startup and stall.

If you need the higher current, the DRV8842 is a good choice.
