DRV120: Max current into STATUS pin

Part Number: DRV120

What is the max current into the STATUS pin when its pulldown FET is active? Datasheet only mentions 2mA as Test Condition in VOL spec.

  • Hi,

I have notified our expert regarding this topic. Please expect a response by 9/4/18.

    Thanks,

  • Hi EE User 52,

Given that the DRV120 STATUS pin is guaranteed to output below 0.3V at 2mA, I recommend using a max current of 2mA. I believe it can handle more current, perhaps 5mA, but the maximum output low voltage would scale up to 0.75V, which may not be acceptable for your application.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

  •   Thanks for the reply Grant.  My thought was to use the open-drain STATUS pin to drive an LED by sinking enough current.  When the DRV120 is driving a solenoid, the LED would be lit.  5mA at 0.75V could work if I choose the right LED & bias to a high enough voltage.  Thank again.

  • Hi EE User 52,

Yes, the STATUS pin should be able to drive an LED. I would not recommend going above 5mA. Please note that the absolute maximum voltage on the status pin is 7V, thus I recommend powering the LED from a 6V or less supply. Additionally, note that the STATUS pin pulls down during normal operation and is high-impedance during a fault condition or when EN is low.
