DRV2625: Initialization time

Part Number: DRV2625
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV2605

Hi Team,

my customer is interested in using the DRV2625. After a meeting one question came up where we need clarification from the experts.

  1. How long does it take until the Initialization Procedure described at 9.3.1 in the datasheet is finished. Background is that the application is battery operated. In order to safe battery life it could be considered that the DRV2625 will be turned off completely. So how long would it take until the Initialization is finished and the actuator can be driven with a waveform the library.
  2. Do the DRV2625 and the DRV2605 differentiate in this department

Please let me know what your thoghts are on this. Looking forward for  your answers.

Kind regards

Dierk Bronner

  • Hi Dierk,

You should be able to handle the actuator immediately after the Initialization procedure is finished. The DRV2625 is one of the newest devices, so this device is better that DRV2605.

  • Hi José,

thanks for replying but that is not an answer to my question. I asked:

    1. How long does it take until the Initialization Procedure described at 9.3.1 in the datasheet is finished.
    2. Do the DRV2625 and the DRV2605 differentiate in this department

Please give me a time for question number 1. and a clear answer for 2.

    Kind regards

  • Hi Dierk,

I don't understand very well your question. Do you mean how long DRV2625 takes to finish all the initialization procedure?

  • Hi José,

Please take a look at the datasheet posted below.

As I understand this after powering on the device the initialization described at 9.3.1 has to be done and takes some time. I have to wait at least 1 ms before I can send I²C commands and the there is even more following up in steps 2,3,4,5.......So this must take some time!

Assume the device was turned off and now gets turned on:

    1. How long does it take until the Initialization Procedure described at 9.3.1 in the datasheet is finished and I can drive the actuator.
    2. Do the DRV2625 and the DRV2605 differentiate in this department

Background is that the application is battery operated. In order to safe battery life it could be considered that the DRV2625 will be turned off completely and just get turned on if the have to use it.

Please let me know if I could help you understand my request.

  • Hi Dierk,

I have researched the time of the Initialization procedure:
    1) It takes 1ms as this step mentions.
    2) If NRST is tied to Vdd the initial wait time can be just 1ms.
    3) There is a typo in this datasheet. The DRV2625 doesn't have a MODE register for standby.
    4) The minimum setting is 250ms for auto-calibration.
    5) You need to calculate the time based on their settings. It will depend on I2C write speed and number for commands.

  • Hi José,

that is the answer I was looking for. Could you please tell me the DRV2605 initialization time as well.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Dierk,

After power-up, you should wait for a least 250us before the DRV2605 accepts I2C commands.
The auto-calibration should take 350ms. Keep in mind for playing a waveform would be 0.7ms from writing GO(0x0C) and the output signal appears.
