CCS/DRV8323: update from DRV8305 to DRV8323

Part Number: DRV8323
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8305, , MOTORWARE

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hey.
It is necessary update from DRV8305 to DRV8323. I want to give up SPI management.
I want to buy www.ti.com/.../BOOSTXL-DRV8323RH and work with InstaSpin.
But, in the examples www.ti.com/.../slvc705 there is no code for the Hardware Interface.
The MODE signal has no configuration resistances. :( and stay in HI-Z. - 1xPVM mode.

Forgot set R23 to 0R or to DVDD?

for GAIN R22 must not be. now set 10V/V

I think in the next version this will be fixed.

Andrew.

  • Andrew,

Right now, I don’t have a quick answer. Let me check it on Monday.

  • Andrew,

Consulted with other team member. Here is the answer:"The Instaspin port for DRV8323Rx is only for DRV8323RS. The document is instructions to get this DRV and Instaspin working together.

    As for R22 and R23:

    • R23 is DNP. It is the pull down on MODE pin. The mode is High Z for 1x PWM mode. If he wants a different mode, then he needs to solder a resistor on the DNP to set the mode respective to the mode he wants to operate in.
    • R22 is 47k gain pull down. We can't reach all Gains with the DRV8323RH because one of them requires a 5 V (DVDD) pulled up, and we didn’t use 5 V on the EVM.

Please go to page 40 of the datasheet for more info or let me know any more questions."
  • 5 V (DVDD) ??????? Are you sure?
  • Andrew,

DVDD is 3.3V. It should be a typo.
  • Hello.

I did not buy KIT, but made a me PCB. Today I soldered the board and turned it on. Does not work.  :(  :)
Please help me with the parameters for DRV8323RH. I have a FET IRFS7530TRL7PP  and Rsh 0.002R, PWM-15K.
    I think the problem with IDRIVE. I installed IDRIVE = Tied to DVDD (1A / 2A). I have a H/W Device.
Motor identification does not work. Triggered protection. I reduced IDRIVE = 75 kΩ tied to AGND (0.06A / 0.12A).
Motor Identification makes Rs measurements and further protection is triggered.
If TI has recommendations for gate current.

    Thank you.

    Andrew.

  • Andrew,

    "Triggered protection"
First, let me assume you have confirmed the fault case from nFAULT pin signal. Also, did you use TI GUI to check the fault condition?

For gate current calculation, please check another post: e2e.ti.com/.../729724

    "Motor identification does not work"
What GUI do you use to indicate "Motor identification" error? Would you show me a picture?

  • Thanks for the document.

Probably for the next version I use other transistors. With less charge.
The PCB works. I reduced the current to the gate to 570mA, reduced the PWM frequency.
And  update from MW15 to MotorWare 18.

    Andrew.
