DRV8833: How long will TI keep making it?

Part Number: DRV8833

Hello, I'm considering using DRV8833 in a design I am working on. I notice the datasheet is dated from 2011, and the device I'm designing is likely to be in production for a long time, so I was wondering how long TI will continue making DRV8833 for?

I am using it with the H-bridges tied together to drive a brushed DC motor.  I specifically require low on-resistance, at least 2A current capability, ability to connect a current sense/limit resistor and ability to run down to 3.3V supply voltage, which this device provides.

If this device is unlikely to be in production for more than a decade, are there plans to replace it with a footprint-compatible equivalent?

Thanks, Tom.

  • Hi Tom,

The DRV8833 is a popular device, and there are no plans to discontinue the device. TI has devices that have been made for over 40 years.

Having said that, it is not possible to predict the future. If a decision is made to discontinue the device, customer will be notified that the device status is changing to LIFEBUY. During the LIFEBUY status, the opportunity to buy devices for your future needs is provided.
